GENERAL CRITERIA FOR GRANT MAKING
1. Extract from Declaration of Trust:
"The Trustees shall stand possessed of the Trust Fund upon the trust to apply the income and capital therefrom in such manner as they shall in their absolute discretion think fit for all or any of the following charitable purposes namely:
- The preservation, repair, maintenance, improvement, upkeep, beautification and reconstruction of churches in Northamptonshire and of monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments and chattels in such churches and of the churchyard belonging to any such churches and the Trustees may at any time and from time to time pay or transfer any part or parts of the income or capital of the Trust Fund to the Historic Churches Preservation Trust for any similar charitable purpose or purposes in the United Kingdom other than in Northamptonshire".
2. Priority
Generally in terms of priority, preference will be given to cases involving work to the structure of the church.
3. Policy
3.1 Consideration may be given to applications for grants for the restoration of organs.
3.2 Grants may be made for electrical wiring
3.3 Grants may also be made for heating, kitchens and toilets if they form part of the Church.
3.4 Grants would not be made for the re-casting of bells although grants could be made for works on the tower which were part of works involving bells.
3.5 Grants would not generally be made to assist with the provision of disabled access on the basis that local fundraising ought to cover such matters.
3.6 Grants would not normally be made for the restoration of monuments unless they were of real quality when consideration would be given to them.
4. Pre-conditions
4.1 These pre-conditions apply to monies raised through the "Ride & Stride" and not to monies raised from sponsors.
4.2 The church must have participated in the previous year's "Ride & Stride" although if the church in question has a good record of participation in the event, the fact that it does not participate in the previous year should not prevent a grant being made to it.
4.3 Participation in the "Ride & Stride" includes cases in which the church is open and raises money by sponsorship although there are no cyclists participating on behalf of the particular church.
4.4 Grants can only be made to churches and not to church preservation trusts.
4.5 Grants may be made to churches which have been closed but in those cases, payments will be made direct to the contractors undertaking the works on the closed church in conjunction with any organising committee.
