Northamptonshire Historic Churches Trust
On Saturday 12th September the Northamptonshire Historic Churches Trust organises an Annual Sponsored Cycle Ride (or any other form of locomotion) to help preserve Churches in Northamptonshire. This is part of a National fund raising effort.
Last year cyclists and walkers raised over £20,000. Half the money raised goes to the church nominated by the rider or walker, and half goes to the Trust. In turn the Trust makes grants to applicant churches to help with care and preservation. In this way the event plays its part in preserving the wonderful churches of which this 'County of Spires' is proud.
On July 15th grants were made as a result of last year's fund raising. These were handed out at a celebration evening at Drayton House, Lowick, the home of Mr Stopford Sackville. Grants were made to St John's Church, Boddington (£3,000), St Mary Magdalene Church, Geddington (£2,000), St Peter's Church, Clopton (£1,500), All Saints Church, Cottesbrooke (£1,500), St Mary's Church, Nassington (£1,000), St Luke's Church, Kislingbury (£1,000), and St Peter's Church, East Carlton (£1,000).
The Trust welcomes applications from churches of all denominations and similarly encourages as many churches as possible to be open for visitors on September 12th.
Why not enjoy a family day out visiting places not always open, having a picnic or pub lunch, and helping to preserve the heritage of our county?
